- Scientific Name: Thunbergia Laurifolia
- Also Known As: Blue Sky Flower, Blue Thunbergia, Blue Trumpet Vine, Clock Vine, Sky Flower and Sky Vine. It is locally known as 'Kar Tuau' in Malaysia and 'Rang Jeud' in Thailand.
- This vine is native to South East Asia, China, Nepal and India. It bears wide flowers that are generally sky-blue or lavender-blue. Some varieties (E.g. 'Alba') have pure white flowers.
- The Blue Trumpet Vine has remarkably large flowers ranging from lavender to bluish-violet hanging together in clusters. The leaves are opposite, heart-shaped with serrated leaf margin and taper to a pointed tip. These plants are known for their rapid growth and will require a climbing support. These evergreen climbers bloom throughout the summer and well into the autumn.
- Uses: This is a popular ornamental plant in tropical gardens. The vine is ideal for covering a fence, pergola, large trellis or an arbor. It sends out long wandering tendrils, which can even grab onto a nearby tree branch, becoming an interesting focal point in the garden. It’s this growth habit which gives the plant its name as well.
